Beloved Mother of God
Introduction

Who Is Mother Mary?

Mother of Jesus

Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ — the Son of God who became man. She was chosen by God for a unique and holy purpose in salvation history.

Full of Grace

Mary said "yes" to God with complete trust and humility. Her fiat — her "be it done unto me" — opened the door for our salvation.

Our Spiritual Mother

Catholics love Mary as a spiritual mother. She cares for all her children with tender love and brings us closer to her Son, Jesus.

What We Believe

  • Mary is the Mother of God (Theotokos)
  • She is ever-virgin, chosen from all eternity
  • She was preserved from sin by God's grace
  • She was assumed body and soul into heaven
  • She is crowned Queen of Heaven and Earth
  • She loves us as her spiritual children

Important Truth

Catholics honor Mary with love and respect, but we worship God alone. Mary is not a goddess — she is a humble servant who points us always to her Son, Jesus Christ.

Her Yes

Mary's Yes to God

The Angel Gabriel's message to Mary changed the course of history.

The Annunciation

"The Angel Gabriel was sent by God to a virgin named Mary. The Angel went to her and said, 'Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you... Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. You will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.'"

— Luke 1:26-31

Her Faithful Response

Mary's response is one of the most beautiful moments in salvation history. Despite her confusion and fear, she trusted in God's plan with complete surrender.

"Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word."

This simple "yes" — called her fiat — opened the door for God to become man. Mary's trust and obedience teach us how to surrender to God's will in our own lives.

Lesson: Like Mary, we are called to trust God even when we don't understand His plan. Her yes reminds us that surrender to God brings incredible grace.
